speak ill of 说…的坏话
It's not wise to speak ill of others in the dark.
背后说人坏话是不明智的。
A: Why are you feeling depressed?
你为什么不高兴？
B: I was told my girlfriend was speaking ill of me. It's a real letdown.
我听说我女朋友在说我的坏话，这真让人泄气。
A: I don't think she would do such a thing.
我觉得她不会做这种事。
B: But she did and it made me disappointed.
