剛進大學,最重要的就是要了解自己即將要呆四年的地方。雖然既參加了orientation,又有一些高年級的學長們帶路,但我也思考過,到底哪種方式更加有效率呢?

範文+解析

In most cases, newcomers can participate in the university’s introductory program while getting help from their fellow senior students. However, after analyzing the merits of both, I would preferto engage inorientation programs rather than asking for help. This is because I believe official programs can help new students to adapt better.

題外話:大多數的情況下,新生既能參加學校組織的活動,又能得到學長學姐的支持。

觀點:但是論效果,我覺得還是orientation programs 更加的符合大學生的需求。

To begin with, senior students are experts on their university. They are able to provide certain perspectives that are inaccessible through participating in orientation programs alone. For instance, when discussing about food in school café, senior students are able to provide detailed knowledge on which food is bad or good. Furthermore, seniors can provide useful suggestions on course selections based on students’ individual preference. This will potentially save them a lot of trouble from going through courses that they don’t like. Such specific information is simply unobtainablethrough school media.

It is true that seniors have more experiences in the university, butthere are some disadvantages when you rely too much onthem. Firstly, their opinions are shaped by their unique experiences in the university, thus it may be misleading for newcomers who still have lots to learn. Secondly, even senior students do not have a full understanding on all the functions of the university. This is a natural result from the intensive studies that prevent them from knowing everything about the place. Therefore, it is unwise to ask every little detail to your senior friends. Frankly, it will annoy them.

解釋:經驗不一定適用於所有人,也不能有時間精力向新生介紹一切

As a solution, orientation programs from official platforms in school can provide all the information you will need in order to “survive”. In essence, there will be volunteers that are willing to answer your questions while guiding you throughout the school. As a newcomer, it is moreimportant to understand the basic facilities and programs that the university provides rather than going into too much detail on specific aspects of the school. When new students stay long enough, they will develop their sense of understanding anyways, so opinions from senior students are not always necessary.

To sum up, senior peers can provide you with detailed and useful information on certain aspects of the university while introductory programs can quickly get you to know about the school in general. However, the latter is much more useful as it can provide immediate information on facilities and courses that a newcomer anxiously needs. Overall, it is absolutely necessary for newbies to adapt both ways in order to maximize their experience in university. After all, university is the place where it will consume four years of their lives.
