The Gunners legend will take over at the Ligue 1 club once they fire the ex-Brighton and Sunderland boss Gus Poyet.
Thierry Henry will meet the new American owners of Bordeaux on Thursday before agreeing to take his first manager's job at the Ligue 1 club.
The Arsenal legend, 41, is close to a deal but is seeking assurances over future transfer funds. He plans to bring his former Gunners team-mate Gilles Grimandi in as his assistant.
Current boss Gus Poyet will be officially fired on Friday after His public criticism of the board last week Henry, France's record goal-scorer, resigned from his punditry job at Sky Sports to seek a full-time role in coaching and was considered by Aston Villa in the summer.
But Belgium are also keen to retain his services and he could yet take the assistant's role to Roberto Martinez after helping the Red Devils to third place at the World Cup.
Bordeaux are being bought by US investment company GACP and Henry is set to hold talks with boss Joseph DaGrosa. The club also approached Zinedine Zidane in 2014 but failed to reach agreement with another 1998 World Cup winner.
But by taking the job, Henry would offer another big boost to French domestic football after another ex-Arsenal favourite Patrick Vieira took over at Nice earlier this summer.
