在英国英语中，Excuse me和sorry的意思并不相同。
当我们要说的话或要做的事可能弓起对方不快时，我们一般先说一声Excuse me。sorry则用于说完话或做完事以后，表示歉意。
在我们要打搅别人或打断别人，或者要引起别人注意时也常用Excuse me 。
Excuse me, could I get past?...Oh, sorry, did I step on your foot?劳驾，可以让我过去吗?······啊，对不起，我踩你的脚了吧?
Excuse me, could you tell me the way to the station?劳驾，请问去车站怎么走?
除了sorry之外，我们要道歉时还可以说I beg your pardon(更正式些)。(在美国英语中，Excuseme和Pardon me常常都用来表示道歉。
Sorry, I hope you haven't been waiting long.对不起。你没有等太久吧。
l beg your pardon, I didn't realize this was your seat.对不起，我不知道这座位原来是你的。
如果我们没有听清或没有听懂别人的话，一般要说Sorry?
What?(非正式)或者(I beg your)pardon?而且，都要用升调来说。
美国人还可以说Pardon me?或者Please?
“It's the plumber at the door.”“Sorry?”.“I said it's the
plumber.”——水暖工来了。
——你说什么?-
——我说水暖工来了。
“see you on Tuesday”'
“What?”
“See you on Tuesday.”
——星期二再见。
——你说什么?
——星期二再见。
“You are going deaf.”
"I beg you pardon?"
——你耳朵变聋了。
