5月10日10时09分，杭州市公安局交通（水上）治安分局钱江水上派出所接市局110指挥中心指令：有一男子站在九堡大桥栏杆外，可能想不开。
接警后，民警贾德厚带领辅警火速赶往现场，于10时33分许到达现场，经搜索发现有一男子站在九堡大桥南部栏杆外侧，情况危急。
民警劝说无果，该男子从九堡大桥跳入钱塘江。现场水流较急，出警人员立刻抛出救生圈，贾德厚果断跳入江中，快速游至落水男子处，迅速将男子从水中救起，后在船上辅警协助下将男子安全救上快艇。落水男子目前生命体征无大碍。民警将男子带到钱塘江北岸移交属地九堡所作先行处理。
后经了解，该男子二十岁左右，籍贯安徽，因与父母吵架，一时想不开跳江。
