英文小寓言《The Wolf and the Child》

A wolf was sniffing round outside a house looking for food. As he passed under a window he heard a child crying and its mother scolding it.

一隻狼在屋外嗅來嗅去尋找食物。當他從窗戶下走過時，他聽到一個孩子在哭，媽媽在罵他。

"Stop crying this minute," said the mother crossly. "If you don't stop I'll throw you out of the window and the wolf will get you."

“別哭了，”母親生氣地說。如果你不停下來，我就把你扔出窗外，狼就會抓住你。”

The wolf grinned to himself.

狼自言自語地笑了。

"If I wait around here for a while I shall get a fine supper," he thought. So he lingered round the house hopefully, listening to the child's cries.

“如果我在這兒等一會兒，我會吃頓豐盛的晚餐，”他想。所以他滿懷希望地在房子周圍徘徊，傾聽孩子的哭聲。

As evening came on and it began to grow dark the child began to cry again and the wolf crept nearer to the window. Again the mother was talking, but this time her voice was soft and kind.

夜幕降臨，天開始變黑，孩子又哭起來，狼悄悄地向窗戶靠近。母親又在說話了，但這次她的聲音柔和而親切。

"Don't cry, baby," she said. "Don't cry. The nasty wolf shan't have you."

“別哭，寶貝，”她說。“不要哭。惡狼不會叼走你的。”

Hungry and disappointed the wolf slunk back to the woods muttering:"That's what comes of believing people who say one thing and mean another."

狼又餓又失望地溜回樹林，喃喃地說：“這就是相信那些說一句話又說另一句話的人的結果。”

Don't believe everything you hear.

不要聽見什麼就信什麼 。
