那时的世界 在很多方面都 和 我们现在的生活方式 大不相同。
句子里was 和 different from分开了，仔细琢磨这样写作很妙：
① was 暗示了前面的主语是过去的那个世界；
② 如果逗号紧随 the world，后面的插入语从结构角度讲应该是个同位语才比较漂亮，但in many ways显然是状语，看来作者很想强调这个状语的内涵，才特意提前插在这里，符合英语的强调和重点都尽可能前置的美感习惯，于是，这个was必须在插入语前面。
为什么是 from 不 是 to ♂️呢？
这个问题的正解在字典里。这样的词，我们几乎没有查字典的习惯，但，笔者发现，英语学习的所谓“词汇量”的精妙之处就在于词汇的同义替换背后的兄弟们之间的细微差距。这些差距的精准理解，还真需要大量样本和深入思考，地道的英英字典是最佳老师。

这两姐妹长得实在太像了，简直不太可能把她们区分开。
❀ to 定义之一：
在to的定义里，to是一个表达方向，未来趋势......的介词，意义很多，唯一一个与差距有关的定义是时间的差：used when saying the time, to mean before the stated hour
