上次我們提到了表示數據下降的各種詞彙，我們今天再來說說在寫作中用來描述數據上升的詞彙。
increase——The S&P 500 index increased 3.3 percent on the week。標普500指數本週上漲3.3%。這裡的increase是作為動詞上漲來使用的，這是很普遍的一種用法，但其實我們知道increase也有他的名詞形式，用名詞形式表達就變成了The S&P 500 index had a 3.3 percent increase on the week.標普500指數本週有了一個3.3%的上漲。
在increase前面加上百分比可以表示具體增長的數據，當然我們還可以放上形容詞來表示大致的上漲幅度，比如April saw the sharpest increase in grocery store prices in nearly 50 years.4月份雜貨店價格出現了近50年來的最大漲幅。這裡的sharp是鋒利的、急劇的意思，用它的最高級來形容increase說明這個漲幅絕對是直線上升的狀態。
除了increase這個比較常見的詞彙，還有很多詞可以用來表達同樣的意思的。
如spike——The unemployment rate spiked to 14.7 percent in April, the worst level since the Great Depression. 4月份失業率升至14.7%，為大蕭條以來的最糟糕水平。
spike本身就是披著一件“鋒利”色彩外衣的單詞，所以單獨使用時自然就已經有increase sharply的意思；
另外，explode也是能拿來表示數據發生巨大變化的詞，explode本義是爆炸，數量都多到爆炸了，肯定是增長很多啦！The population of India is exploding。印度人口正在爆炸式增長。
還有boost——Retailers saw large boosts in demand for online groceries, fitness equipment and computers. 零售商發現線上百貨、健身器材和計算機的需求量有大幅增長。boost原來意為推動、促進的意思，把一個數值往前推進，也就是增加的意思啦。
把單詞圖像化
widen——The net loss widened to $89.0 million in the fourth quarter. 第四季度，淨虧損增加至8,900萬美元。
enlarge——It is highly probable that the ratio of human worrying about health will continue to enlarge。對健康表示擔心的人口比例極有可能繼續增加。
escalate——There’s escalating supply in the market。市場上供應不斷增加。
escalator：自動扶梯
lift、elevator：升降電梯
rocket——The small company’s stock price rocketed with a 22% gain for the year. 這家小公司的股價一路飆升，今年累計上漲22%。
此外，還有很多常見的詞彙，grow、rise、up、soar、jump、climb等等，都能在描繪數據上升時發揮他們的作用。快拿去試試吧！
