Suburban living was very popular from the 1960's to the 1990's. People wanted to live in the countryside for the clean air and more space to raise a family. Other reasons people choose to live far away from the city center was that it was safer and less expensive to buy a house. Of course the downside to living further away meant commute time increased. More money is spent on car maintenance and upkeep. A longer commute time also meant less time spent with family.
