Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Arabic Unit, News Section II, News and Content Branch, News and Media Division, Department of Public Information. The News and Content Branch is primarily a multimedia service provided by the United Nations to promote the universal ideals of the United Nations, including peace, respect for human rights and developments. It produces a range of audio, video and multimedia products across eight languages available to media organizations around the world. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Unit. Please be advised that the position is available starting as soon as possible for a period of three months with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Arabic Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

- Researches, writes and produces news and feature stories in Arabic for radio magazine programmes, which are also posted on the web;

- Rewriting official releases, statements, and features based on UN activities system-wide in Arabic for posting on the UN News web page and social media.

- Duties on a daily basis include: Reviewing press releases, statements and other official news material from UN organs, offices and agencies for inclusion in the daily news programme and on air broadcasting;

- Assisting in updating material on the Arabic web page, as necessary;

- Acts as media contact person on selected stories, conduct interviews, set up interviews , produce and edit videos, and posting stories, features, videos and photos on the main page and social media pages;

- Perform other duties as required.

No experience is required for candidates who have passed the Young Professional Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (GtoP).

Languages

Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, is required. For this post fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Assessment

Responsibilities

- Assist and advise in the provision of technical assistance with respect to regional and national terrorism prevention and counter-terrorism activities;

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Senior Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

•Provides strategic and operational advice to the DSRSG/RC/HC on donor coordination, and on related programmes.

• Takes the lead to develop, implement and evaluate donor coordination programmes/projects, etc.; directs subordinates in programme/project development planning, implementation, monitoring and assessment.
