In our youth, we always yearn to fly away from our hometowns and monotonous lives. We dream of leaving for a larger and more prosperous city to chase after freedom and freshness.
At length, a coming-of-age movie is shot to vividly express such strong feeling and passion. Today I want to share with you this hit Oscar movie——Lady Bird .
This movie obtained both good word of mouth and triumphant box office. It was not only nominated for 5 Oscars but also won 2 Golden Globes. Also, the mainstream media paid it extravagant compliments with one accord.
I guess its magic lies in the most repeated word in the American film review website, Rotten Tomatoes——relatable. It means the movie can resonate with us.
Plot
Summary
当红女演员西尔莎·罗南扮演的女主，是一个平凡普通、但是又有点自命不凡的18岁女孩，在一所教会学校上高中。她的学习成绩普通，不够上耶鲁这样的顶级常青藤名校，但可以轻松上个本地的城市学院，稍微努力一下，也能够上纽约某所好学校的 waiting list。而她的家境就更普通了，一把年纪的父亲突然被辞退，需要重新找工作，母亲是医院的护工，斯坦福毕业的哥哥没找到工作只能在超市收银打零工，一家人二十多年没有换过房子。
但她不太普通的是，她内心自命不凡，自由不羁，不愿意被人控制，不愿意服从权威。她甚至可以在跟母亲在车上吵架时，一言不合就开车门跳车……
Her rebellious characteristic gives rise to her dislike of Sacramento, her very place of birth and growth. She takes this place for tedious, vapid and lack of culture. As the first scene presents, “Anybody who talks about California hedonism has never spent a Christmas in Sacramento.”
此外，她认为当前生活中最大的束缚来自母亲。母女俩几乎可以说是水火不容，不停地因为各种大事小事发生口角，前一秒钟还有说有笑，下一秒钟就开始了争吵。在女儿看来，母亲出于关心而为自己做的种种要求和决定，都是对她的束缚。
Therefore, Lady Bird’s dream is to be admitted into a university in New York rather than California. Then she can thoroughly break away from current constraints of her hometown, school and family especially her mother.

从未接受过真实的自我，
更不懂得如何去体谅他人
正因为伯德小姐活在自我编织的对未来的想象中，反倒让当前的一切显得黯淡无光。当下的各方面像一根根铁丝，编织成一个困住她的笼子。
Although Lady Bird’s mother always criticizes her of being self-centred, she just takes it as angry words instead of thinking critically over it. When facing the non-wealthy even crummy living condition, Lady Bird is apt to conceal it and reluctant to expose this weakness. She asks her father to drop her off far away from her school because she doesn’t want her schoolmates to see his elderly father and the cheap car. She even lies to her new friend that she lives in a big house downtown.
我们在心里都会设想一个更好的自己，希望能成为一个群体的不可或缺的人，甚至是站在人群中心的人，被其他人仰视和羡慕。为了维持这个更光鲜的自我设定，我们不得不花费心思去经营、去伪装；当我们在这个设定中沉浸过久，真实的样子很容易就被遗忘。
当伯德小姐意识到这一切，她渐渐有所领悟。生活的很多折磨和痛苦都源自人们对真实自我的无视和逃避。她与妈妈经常吵架，是因为妈妈希望自己能成为她心中更好的样子，虽然她一直与妈妈“较量”，但她的努力很多时候并不是捍卫真实的自己，更像是情绪上的敌对。
影片最出彩的地方，恰恰在于其描述的父母和子女之间那种既有爱意又互相角力的复杂关系，因为不管是国内还是国外，这样的关系都普遍存在。

现实生活远比想象中的艰难，
远方也不曾真的闪闪发光
Everything happened during the third senior year changes her mind. In this very year, she undergoes two love affairs and devoted her virginity. However, these novel life experiences are not as wonderful as she once imagined. On the contrary, her annoying mother is exactly the one who supported her in her lows.
比如当好强又挑剔的母亲，当她知道女儿真要远走他乡时，一边因为这个背着她做出的决定而生气，直到女儿坐飞机离开也不搭理她。另一边却一遍遍地尝试写信给女儿，希望能够缓和关系，但每一次都半途而废。幸好爸爸将这些扔掉的信捡起来，偷偷交给了伯德小姐，才让她在到达纽约之后明白妈妈对自己的感情和态度。
在影片的最后，伯德小姐考上了心仪的大学，终于逃离沉闷的家乡，来到了梦寐以求的纽约。然而，一切却与她想象的相去甚远，在激动的情绪和新鲜感褪去后，初到纽约的迷茫与无助和对家乡的怀念使她失去了方向。人只有失去了才懂得珍惜，她徘徊在纽约的街道，在纽约逼仄的楼宇间才想起萨克拉门托的阳光；只有在听见陌生教堂的唱诗班歌声才怀念教会学校生活；只有离开了家才知道自己爱着爸妈。
We always take family’s love as granted until we lose it. Once, to express her eagerness for freedom, she gave herself a unique name “Lady Bird”，hoping that one day she can become a bird and fly away.
At that time, she is Christine who was loved and cared by her family. However, only when she finally becomes a lonely bird living outside does she fully accept her given name and realize the importance of family.

看完这部电影，我想，成长或许就是这样一场和解，接受自己不优渥的家庭，接受我们的不善表达的父母，接受真实的不完美的自己。这些源头式的生命经验，不是我们自身所能选择的，无论当时如何接受或反抗，这些经验都在塑造和影响着我们对自身，对人际关系，对社会和世界的态度和想法。
我们带着父母、家庭和故乡的印迹出发，迈向远方，去探索更多的可能性，而这场旅程的终点或许仍是我们的童年和青春，仍是我们的家庭和故乡。
