“远”，在英文里有很多种说法，也就是far、distant跟remote，意义虽然相近，常常可以互换使用，但用法上还是有点小差别需要注意!

FAR

far可视为非正式、口语的用法，相对而言使用范围更广更复杂，同时能代表”时间、空间上的距离遥远”以及”(差)很多”的意思，视其搭配词或短语而定，几个例子如下:

1.I don’t live far away from here.

我住在离这不远的地方（表示空间上距离遥远）

2. She is far and away(by far) the smartest one in the class

她是班上最聪明的学生（固定短语 far and away=by far, undoubtedly 明显，显而易见的意思）

3. As far as I am concerned, this house is too expensive.

这房子对我而言太贵了（固定短语 as far as 就我看来）

4. He traveled far and wide(far and near, near and far) in search of his missing wife.

他走了很远很远来找他失踪的老婆（固定短语： far and wide=far and near 到处）

5. Far be it from me to complain, but it’s getting hot in here.

我不想抱怨，但这里面越来越热了（短语far be it form 表示否定 意思是我不会，我不是）

REMOTE

remote则是「远」较为正式的用法，一般来说和distant可以交换使用，意义也大多互相重叠，可以指「时间空间上的遥远」以及「人际关系的疏远」，但remote的距离也常带有「偏远、偏僻」的意思，有时也用来形容「机会微乎其微」。例子如下:

1.I traveled to a remote village in my vacation.

我放假时去了一个偏远的村庄（表示空间上的遥远）

2.That accident happened in the remote past.

那个意外发生在遥远的过去（表示时间上的遥远）

3. I’ve only got a remote chance to be promoted.

我升迁的机会微乎其微（形容机会微乎其微）

另外，remote当作名词就是遥控器的意思。

DISTANT

distant的意思就比较单纯了，单指「时间、空间距离的遥远」以及「人际关系的疏远」，distant所指称的通常是相较于另两个词更为「具体」，或就算不具体也已知相当遥远的距离，在表示距离的数字后面也只会用distant，而不会用remote或是far，例子如下:

My house is about 10 kilometers distant from the station.

我家离车站大约十公里远（表示具体距离只能用distant）

值得注意的是，in the not too distant past/future这一固定用语中须用 distant，但在没有 not too 的 in the distant/remote past/future 中，两者却又可互换。
