02.29 “I don't like”的更高級說法,你知道嗎?

Hello and everyone and welcome back to English with Lucy. Today I am going to teach you how to politely say that you don't like something.

大家好,歡迎來到跟著Lucy學英語。今天我要教你們如何禮貌地表達你不喜歡某事。

This is really really hard, even for British people, for native speakers. So I can only imagine how hard it is for you.

這個真的很難,即使是對英國人,對母語者來說都是的。所以我能想象到這對你們來說有多難。

I'm going to teach you 15 ways, then you can say I don't like something in a smart and polite way. Quickly before we get started, I'd just like to thank the sponsor of today's video.

我要教你們15種方法,然後你們就可以以一種更聰明禮貌的方式表達我不喜歡某事了。在我們開始之前,我要感謝今天視頻的贊助商。

It is italki and if you haven't heard of I talked you before, it's a huge online database of both native and non-native teachers who give one-to-one video lessons 24 hours a day seven days a week. You can learn English and over 130 other languages from anywhere in the world, any time of day, any day of the week as long as you have a stable internet connection.

那就是italki,如果你以前沒有聽我說過的話,它是一個大型在線數據庫,上面有母語和非母語的老師,他們全年無休地給你們提供一對一的視頻課程。只要有穩定的網絡連接,你們可以在世界任何地方學習英語以及超過130種其他的語言。

It's an incredibly affordable way of learning a language, much cheaper than an offline tutor or a Language Academy. So many students write to me and ask how can I meet and talk with native speakers.

這是一個超級划算的學習語言的方式,比線下導師或語言學校要便宜得多。很多人給我發信息問我如何找到母語者進行對話。

Well, italki is a really good option because not only do they have qualified teachers, they also have community teachers who will practice conversation with you. They've given me a special offer to pass on to you.

Italki是一個非常棒的選項,因為他們不僅有有資質的教師,還有社區教師來跟你練習對話。他們給通過我來送你們一個優惠。

You can get $10 worth of italki credits in your student wallet 48 hours after making your first purchase of any amount. That could be a free lesson.

你們可以在第一次購買任何數量的課程後的48小時內獲得價值10美元的italki優惠券,優惠券會直接進入你們的學生錢包中。這價值一節課。

All you have to do is click on the link in the description box to sign up. Right, let's get started with the lesson.

你們只需要點擊描述欄中的鏈接然後註冊。好的,我們開始上課吧。

Number one, the first alternative for I don't like is I am sick of. . . I am sick of. . .

第一個,我不喜歡的第一個替代說法就是我很討厭......我討厭......

Or if you want extra emphasis, I am absolutely sick of. . . An example, one my mother used to say to me a lot when I was growing up.

或者你想要額外強調,可以說我真的很討厭......舉個例子,我媽媽在我成長過程中經常說的一句話。

I am sick of hearing you complain. I am absolutely sick of hearing you complain.

我討厭聽你抱怨。我真的討厭聽你抱怨。

I don't like hearing you complain. Now whilst this might not seem polite, I don't like is quite direct, it's quite to the point and in British English, especially in our culture, we don't like to be too direct.

我不喜歡聽你抱怨。儘管這個聽起來似乎不太禮貌,我不喜歡非常直接,它直截了當,而在英式英語中,尤其是我們的文化中,我們不喜歡太直接。

I am sick of is still quite intense, but it's not as direct. If you want to be a bit less intense, you could also say number two, which is I don't appreciate. . .

我討厭仍然很激烈,但是它沒那麼直接。如果你想要表現得不那麼激烈,你還可以說第二個,那就是我不欣賞......

I don't appreciate. . . With emphasis, I really don't appreciate. . .

我不欣賞......如果要強調,可以說,我真的不欣賞......

An example, I really don't appreciate the way she spoke to me.This is a much more polite way of saying I don't like.

舉個例子,我真的不欣賞他跟我說話的方式。這是表達我不喜歡的禮貌得多的方式。

The meaning is conveyed very clearly. We know you mean that you don't like it, but I don't appreciate is a much more highbrow way of saying it.

意思已經表達得很清楚了。我們知道你指的是你不喜歡它,但是我不欣賞這個表達很高雅。

Number three, back to being intense. I can't stand. . .

第三個,說回激烈的言辭表達。我無法忍受......

I cannot stand. . . An example, I can't stand people who don't know how to queue properly.

我無法忍受......舉個例子,我無法忍受不好好排隊的人。

This is true. I can't stand people that push into queues.

這是真的。我無法忍受插隊的人。

Oh my, oh, my word. I've spoken many times about how much I love a good queue.

哦,我的天,哦,我的天。我說過很多次我有多喜歡井然有序的隊列。

I've never quite got my head around the fact that every time I join a queue, I'm always at the end. So depressing, isn't it?

我總是不能理解一件事,那就是每次我排隊,我都會在隊尾。很令人沮喪,不是嗎?

Number four, another less intense version is I'm not fond of. . .This is really quite polite.

第四個,另一個不那麼激烈的表達,那就是我不是很喜歡......這個表達很禮貌。

I'm really not fond of whatever you don't like. And this means that it's not that I dislike it, it's just that I don't love it.

我真的不是很喜歡,加上你不喜歡的任何事情。這個表達的意思是我不是不喜歡它,只是不喜愛它。

Haha, exactly the same thing, but sounds better. An example, I'm not fond of dancing, but I'll give it a go.

哈哈,完全就是一樣的,但是聽上去更好。舉個例子,我不是很喜歡跳舞,但是我還是要嘗試一下。

To give something a go is to try something or attempt something. It's a much nicer way of saying I don't like. . .

嘗試某事指的是努力嘗試做某事。這是表達我不喜歡的更善意的方式。

Another one, that is very similar. Number five is I'm not a fan of. . . , or I'm not a big fan of. . .

另一個,很類似。第五個是我不是......的粉絲,或者我不是......的擁躉。

I'm not a big fan of. . . So remember I'm not fond of. . . , I'm not a fan of. . .

我不是......擁躉。所以請記住我不是很喜歡......,我不是......的粉絲。

We need the article there. I'm not a big fan of early starts.

我們在這裡要加上冠詞。我不是早起的擁躉。

I'm not a big fan of early starts. This means getting up early in the morning.

我不是早起的擁躉。早起的意思是早上起得很早。

Now number six is quite similar to the previous two, but a lot of students make mistakes with it. It is I'm not keen on. . . .

第六個跟前兩個很類似,但是很多學生會在這裡出錯。那就是我不熱衷於......

Now the previous two had the of preposition. We have on, fond of, fan of, keen on.

前面兩個的介詞是of。在這個短語裡是on,fond of,fan of,keen on。

If you remember these three phrases, then it will look very good in exams if you use them correctly. I'm not keen on or if you want emphasis, I'm not so keen on and actually that isn't really emphasis, that almost reduces the phrase further.

如果你把這三個短語記住了,那麼如果你在考試中正確地使用它們,這會看上去非常棒。我不熱衷於......,或者你想要強調,可以說我不那麼熱衷於,其實這也不是真的在強調,差不多是進一步減弱了這個短語的語氣。

I'm not keen on. . . I'm not so keen on. . .

我不熱衷於......我不那麼熱衷於......

I'm not very keen on. . . . An example, I'm not so keen on her new boyfriend, meaning I don't like her new boyfriend but I don't want to say that.

我不是很熱衷於......舉個例子,我不那麼喜歡她的新男友,意思是我不喜歡她的新男友,但是我不想直說。

So I'm going to say I'm not so keen on him. Now the previous three were very very polite, but let's go back to some more intense ones.

所以我會說,我不那麼喜歡他。前面三個都很有禮貌,但是我們回到更激烈的說法吧。

Number seven, I can't bear, I cannot bear something. This means that you really don't like something.

第七個,我無法忍受,我無法忍受某事。它的意思是你真的很不喜歡某事。

It's very very similar to I can't stand. An example, I can't bear the way Tony speaks to his wife.

它跟 I can't stand 很相似。舉個例子,我無法忍受託尼跟他妻子說話的方式。

I don't like it. I cannot stand it.

我不喜歡。我無法忍受。

It's terrible. This means that you just cannot put up with it.

太糟糕了。這意味著你忍不了。

You can't endure it. Now number eight is an interesting one.

你忍耐不了。第八個很有趣。

It is I've had enough of. . . I've had enough of something.

那就是我受夠了......我受夠了某事。

So you're not directly saying I don't like something. . It's just you've reached your limit of being able to accept something.

所以你沒有直接說我不喜歡某事。只是你已經達到了接受某事的能力極限。

For example, I've had enough of scam phone calls. I could take it up to a certain point, but now it's overstepped the mark and I've had enough.

比如,我受夠了騷擾電話。我能忍它忍到某個時刻,但是現在已經越線了,我受夠了。

That's very British. I'm sure lots of British children have heard their parents say that they've had enough of our behaviour.

這個很英式風格。我確信很多英國的孩子們都聽過他們的家長說他們受夠了我們的行為。

Now back to a really polite one. Number nine, if someone is asking you to do something, but it's. . . it's not your thing, you don't like what they're offering or what they're asking you to do, you can say I'm not into. . . or I'm really not into. . .

現在回到很禮貌的說法。第九個,如果某人要你做某事,但是它......它不是我的風格,你不喜歡他們提供給你的或者要求你要做的事,你可以說我對......你感冒,或者我對......真的不感冒。

It's not my thing. It's what you're saying.

這不是我的風格。這只是你說的而已。

An example, sorry, I'm really not into that type of music. I don't want to say I don't like the music that you're playing, but I'm not into it.

舉個例子,不好意思,我真的對那種音樂不太感冒。我不想說我不喜歡你播放的音樂,但是我對它不感冒。

It's not my thing. It's quite a nice thing to say.

它不是我的風格。這樣說很好。

Another more polite one is number 10. I'll pass on. . . or I think I'll pass on. . .

另一個更禮貌的說法是第十個。我不會去.....,或者我覺得我不會去......

An example, I think I'll pass on visiting grandma after she was so rude to me last time. I'll pass on that.

舉個例子,我想我不回去看望祖母,在她上次對我如此無禮之後。我不去。

I don't want to do it. It's not literally I don't like.

我不想做這件事。這並不是指我不喜歡。

It means I don't want to do something. I think I'll just avoid doing that.

它指的是我不想做某事。我想我會避免做這件事。

You're implying that you don't want to do something, that you don't like doing it, so I have included it in the list. Number 11, a very British one.

你表達的是你不想要做某事,你不喜歡做它,所以我把這個說法加入了進來。第11個,非常英式的說法。

I think this was in one of my first ever common British expressions video. It's it's not my cup of tea.

我想它曾經出現在我關於英式英語中最常見的表達的視頻之一里。這不是我的那杯茶。

It's not my cup of tea. Again, another way of saying it's not my thing, I'm not into that.

這不是我的那杯茶。同樣的,另一種表達對某事不感冒的說法。

An example, thanks for the invite but ice-skating really isn't my cup of tea. This is actually what my fiancee said when we were dating.

I invited him ice-skating and he, at six foot six, told me it wasn't his cup of tea, when actually it's because he'd been before and he looked like a baby giraffe, would just limb(s) everywhere. I would pay good money to see that.

我邀請他去溜冰,但是身高六英尺六英寸的他告訴我那不是他的那杯茶,其實是因為他以前溜過,他看起來就像一隻長頸鹿寶寶,劈著岔到處溜。我願意花大價錢看到那一幕。

I wouldn't want the osteopath bill. Okay, this one, it's brilliant.

我不想收到治療骨折的賬單。好的,這個很棒。

I love this one. I hope you have the confidence to use this one.

我喜歡這個說法。我希望你們有使用這個說法的信心。

It is it doesn't tickle my fancy. It really doesn't tickle my fancy.

那就是它讓我提不起興趣。它真的無法讓我提起興趣。

Ah, it's brilliant. It's the same as it's not my cup of tea, it's not my thing.

啊,真是太棒了。這個跟不是我的那杯茶,這不是我的風格意思一樣。

An example, going on a double date with my ex-boyfriend and his new supermodel girlfriend really doesn't tickle my fancy. Number 13, if you don't want to use tickle my fancy, you can just say it's not for me, not for me.

舉個例子,跟我的前男友和她的超模新女友進行四人約會真的無法讓我提起興趣。第13個,如果你不想要使用讓我提起興趣,你可以就說這不適合我,不適合我。

An example, sorry, I just think that the knitting club isn't for me. I'm really sorry.

舉個例子,我認為編織俱樂部不適合我。真的不好意思。

Number 14, a very nice way. I'd say it's maybe slightly more American than is British.

第14個,很好的說法。我要說的是這個說法更偏美式英語一些。

I'm not crazy about. . . I'm just not crazy about. . .

我對......不狂熱。我對......不狂熱。

I'm not crazy about golf, but I'll come along all the same. I don't love golf, I really don't like golf actually, but I will come along anyway.

我對高爾夫不狂熱,但還是我還是會去的。我不喜歡高爾夫,事實上我真的不喜歡高爾夫,但是無論如何我還是會去的。

All the same is the same as anyway. And number 15, this is quite a good one if you want to offer an alternative. if you don't like something and you would prefer to do something else.

“All the same”跟“anyway”的意思一樣。第15個,如果你想要提供一個替代品,如果你不喜歡某事,並且你更想做另一件事,那麼這個說法很合適。

It is I'm more of a hmm person. For example, I don't think I'll come to the dog shelter with you.

那就是我是一個更......的人。比如,我想我不會跟你去小狗收容所。

I'm more of a cat person. I think that's quite a nice way of saying I don't like something.

我是一個更喜歡貓的人。我想這是一個很好的表達我不喜歡某事的方法。

I don't want to do it but I would be, you know, up for doing something else. Right, that is it for today's lesson.

我不想做這件事,但是我會想做另一件事。好的,今天的課程就到這裡。

I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you learnt something. You have homework.

我希望你們喜歡,希望你們有所得。你們有作業。
