在国际科研机构,公共信息官(Public Information Officer)是不可或缺的角色,在科学知识传播方面起着重要的作用。他们跟踪所在机构最新的科学研究,撰写并发布重要科学新闻,帮助对接研究者与记者,但又尊重记者的独立判断。

而对中国的很多研究机构来说,公共信息官这个岗位依然陌生。在过去几年,有多少激动人心、与公众密切相关的研究在中国的实验室发生,对于专业的公共信息官的需求就有多迫切。

约翰·霍普金斯大学是全球最知名的研究机构之一,多个重要的研究发现从这里诞生;Eurekalart!是美国科学促进会旗下负责运营的在线新闻服务系统,为全球数万记者提供新闻报道线索。

5月15日下午,由北京科技记者编辑协会与《知识分子》、中国科学院遗传与发育生物学研究所联合主办、北京科技报 | 北科传媒协办的”科学传播沙龙“将在京举行。沙龙将邀请美国约翰·霍普金斯大学医学院媒体关系总监Audrey Huang博士、高级媒体专员Alsy Acevedo女士,美国科学促进会Eurekalert!编辑、内容经理Joy Ma女士,和大家共同探讨如何连接科学与媒体。

Director, Media Relations

Audrey M. Huang, M.A., Ph.D., is a science writer and molecular geneticist by training. She joined the media relations staff at Johns Hopkins Medicine in 2006.

Huang was a science writer and communications officer at the Genetics and Public Policy Center, part of the Berman Bioethics Institute at Hopkins, located in Washington, DC. As a freelance editor and writer, Huang has written for the National Institutes of Health, the Carnegie Institution of Washington, and the Ontario Genomics Institute. She holds a master’s degree in science writing from Johns Hopkins University where she currently teaches a graduate course in writing.

She has extensive research experience in developmental biology, molecular and cell biology and genetics, having studied the molecular mechanisms involved in muscle cell development at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle and mammalian embryonic development at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. Huang studied chromosome structure in fruitflies and yeast during her postdoctoral training at the Carnegie Institution of Washington Department of Embryology. She holds a Ph.D. in genetics and a B.A. in Biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley.

Alsy Acevedo

Senior Media Specialist

Johns Hopkins Medicine International

As senior media specialist for Johns Hopkins Medicine International, Alsy focuses on global media relations strategies and outreach to position the Johns Hopkins Health System as a top-of-mind destination for complex diagnosis and treatment, and as a trusted resource for health information.

A former journalist, Alsy has written for the Orlando Sentinel and the Asheville Citizen-Times, produced two different radio shows, and was an adjunct professor of marketing, international business and communications in Puerto Rico. Before joining Johns Hopkins, Alsy worked for Catholic Relief Services, where she led international media campaigns, served as media spokeswoman and trained staff members on cultural competencies, media best practices and social media.

Alsy has been recognized by the Huffington Post as one of the 50 Top Latino Voices to Follow on Twitter, by Latino Leadership as an Outstanding Woman in Media and by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists with the Ruben Salazar Scholarship.

Joy Ma manages editorial operations at EurekAlert! Chinese, the bilingual science news service focused on serving reporters and public information officers in China and other Chinese-speaking regions.

She facilitates the exchange of research news between Chinese institutions, journal publishers, and international reporters; and between international institutions and Chinese reporters. She designs and delivers science communication trainings with impact and provides such trainings to Chinese public information officers. She also manages EurekAlert! Chinese’s Weibo and WeChat channels.

Before joining AAAS, she worked for NPR and the Penguin Group. She also worked with Chinese and British filmmakers on a documentary about the impact of UNICEF’s micro-financing projects in China.

She is a recipient of the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for NPR’s coverage of the Chengdu Earthquake, and winner of a Foreign Press Association Scholarship Award, which has only honored 84 journalism students in the award’s 23-year history. Ms. Ma earned an M.A. in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
