2.other than 不同於; 除了……以外
*I don’t know any French people other than you.
除了你, 我不認識別的法國人。
3.or rather 更確切地說
*He explained what the Crux is, or rather, what it was.
他解釋了什麼是南十字座，或者更確切地說，過去南十字座是什麼。
4.would rather. . . than. . . 寧願……而不願……
*She would rather die than give in. 她寧死也不願屈服。
5.but rather 正相反，而寧可說是
*He was not one to retreat but rather one who would take up the gauntlet.
他不是一個想退卻的人，倒是一個寧願應戰的人。
6.rather than與其; 不願; 而不是
(1)rather than連接兩個名詞或代詞作主語時, 謂語動詞應與rather than前面的名詞或代詞在人稱和數上保持一致。
*You rather than I are going to go camping.
是你而不是我要去野營。
(2)rather than後接不定式時, 不定式可以帶to, 也可以不帶to, 但rather than位於句首時, 則只能接不帶to的不定式。
