承接上文，來自2013年考研真題·第三篇閱讀的2句話

這句話讀起來比較難，本句採用賓語後置結構。
由於have A+that 從句 as B中，
A有一個定語從句修飾，太長，
為了避免頭重腳輕、保持句子平衡，
將其後置，改為have as B A +that 從句
正常語序是 (The Long Now Foundation) has (a medical clock) (that is designed to still be marking time thousands of years hence) as (its flagship project).
◆flagship n. 旗艦產品，旗艦店，王牌
(the best and most important product, building etc that a company owns or produces)
也就是一家公司最好的產品，或者門面店
◇The company is opening a new flagship store in London.
這家公司將在倫敦新開一家旗艦店。
◆be designed to do sth 【旨在，目的在於】
=is in order to，外刊高頻詞
多指計劃、某件事、某個地方、某個裝置設備，是為了某種目的而存在
《經濟學人》一篇關於GDP：
Defenders of GDP say that the statistic is not designed to do what is now asked of it.
維護GDP的人認為，它本來就不是用來衡量繁榮水平的。
◆還有個和designed長得很像的詞，
designated，表示【指定、指派】
◆…hence 從現在開始的“…之後”
時間段+hence = after +時間段
◇The property must be vacated 12 days hence.
該不動產應該自現在起12天內騰出。
hence也可表示【因此，由此，所以
】(for this reason)
《經濟學人》一篇關於新冠肺炎：
If so, the virus is more widespread than thought, and hence will be harder to contain within China.
如果是這樣的話，這種病毒的傳播範圍比想象的要廣，因此在中國將更難控制。
→be more adj. than thought 比想象中還要...
