冠詞分為不定冠詞（a、an）和定冠詞（the）。
不定冠詞（a/an）
不定冠詞a/an通常代表“某一個”或“某一類”事物。
其中大多數名詞前用a，少部分發音以元音音素開頭的單詞前an。
舉個例子：
I have a pen and an apple.
我有一支鋼筆和一個蘋果。
Mr. Lee is an engineer.
李先生是一位工程師。
定冠詞（the）
定冠詞the的意思為“這（那）個”，把它放在名詞前面表示特指某個特定的事物。其主要用法有以下幾種：
(1)特指雙方都明白的人或物：
The desk is new.
這是個新桌子。
(2)上文提過的人或事：
I have a book. The book is interesting.
我有一本書，這本書很有趣。
(3)指世界上獨一無二的事物：
the sun 太陽 the moon 月亮 the sky 天空
(4)某些樂器名詞（西洋）前：
I can play the piano.
我會彈鋼琴。
(5)序數詞、形容詞最高級前：
Zhang Peng is the tallest boy in our class.
張鵬是我們班裡最高的男孩。
(6)姓氏複數形式前，表示一家人：
The Whites are watching TV now.
懷特一家現在正在看電視。
(7)一些習慣用語和固定表達方式中：
in the morning 在早上
in the afternoon 在下午
in the evening 在晚上
on the left 在左邊
零冠詞
還有幾種特殊的情況規定名詞前不能加冠詞：
(1)國名、地名、人名等專有名詞前通常不用冠詞。如Sarah(薩拉)、Shanghai(上海)、China(中國)。
(2)季節、月份、星期等名詞前通常不加冠詞。如in winter(在冬天)、on Monday(在週一)、in May(在五月)。
(3)三餐、飯的名詞前通常不用冠詞。如for breakfast(早餐)、have lunch(午餐)、eat dinner(晚餐)。
(4)球類運動和棋類運動前不加冠詞。如play football(踢足球)、play chess(下棋)。
(5)節日、假日等名詞前通常不用冠詞。如Christmas Day(聖誕節)、Children s Day(兒童節)。
(6)名詞前已有this, that, my, his, some, every等詞修飾時不用冠詞。如that T-shirt(那件T恤)、my brother(我的弟弟)、her key(她的鑰匙)。
