be amazed 與 be surprised 都可以表示“吃驚、驚訝”，他們的區別也比較細微：
be amazed“感到驚訝”，含有非常吃驚的意思，往往吃驚道不敢相信，覺得不可能的事情但事實上還是發生了；
如：
After he had dived deep into the sea, he was amazed to see the beautiful colours of all the coral reefs.
他深潛到海中之後，被所那些珊瑚礁的美麗色彩驚呆了。
You'll be amazed at the culinary creations possible in a Dutch oven.
荷蘭烤箱能夠做的食物之多會讓你感到驚奇。
She was amazed at the UFO hanging over her head.
她被懸停在上空的UFO驚呆了。
be surprised“感到吃驚”指人對突然發生的情況感到驚訝，有被“嚇了一跳”的感覺。
如：
Hearing the loud voice downstairs, she was surprised.
聽到樓下傳來的聲音，她大吃一驚。
Nobody should be surprised by this. It's been in the works for some time.
不應該有人對此感到驚奇，這事已經張羅了有一陣子了。
I would be surprised, actually, if he left Birmingham.
如果他要離開伯明翰，說真的，我會很驚訝。
