中國植樹節的來歷
廣東省中山市翠杏村，是我國新民主主義創始人、偉大的革命先驅孫中山先生的家鄉。在孫中山先生的故居中，今天還生長著一棵百年以上樹齡的檀香山酸豆樹。
這是1883年，年僅17歲的孫中山從美國檀香山帶回，並親手栽種在這裡的。孫中山是中國近代最早意識到森林的重要意義和倡導植樹造林的人。
1893年，孫中山先生親自起草了的政治文獻《上李鴻章書》，他提出，中國欲強，須"急興農學，講究樹藝"。辛亥革命以後，孫中山提出了在中國北部和中部大規模進行植樹造林的計劃，規劃著農業現代化的遠景。
1924年，他在廣州的一次講演中強調："我們研究到防止水災和旱災的根本方法都是要造森林，要造全國大規模的森林。"此後，在他的許多著作和講演中，反覆強調毀林的危害性和植樹造林的重要性。
1915年，在孫中山的倡議下，當時的北洋政府正式公佈了以每年清明節為植樹節的規定，自此我國有了植樹節。後因清明節對我國南方來說，植樹季節太遲，同時也為了紀念孫中山先生，國民政府又決定將孫中山的逝世日--3月12日定為植樹節。
1979年，第五屆全國人民代表大會決定，每年的孫中山逝世紀念日--3月12日為我國的植樹節，以紀念一貫倡導植樹造林的孫中山先生。
我國幅員遼闊，氣候條件差異較大，各地適合植樹的時間也不盡一致，所以，許多省市還規定了自己的植樹日。
