英文小寓言《The Boy and the Nuts》

A boy once found a jar full of nuts and raisins in his mother's kitchen and he put his hand in to help himself to as many as he could hold. When he tried to take his hand out of the jar, however, he found that the opening was too narrow for his clenched fist to pass through.

有一次，一個男孩在他母親的廚房裡發現了一個裝滿堅果和葡萄乾的罐子，他把手伸進去，儘可能多地幫自己拿。然而，當他試圖把他的手從罐子裡拿出來時，他發現這個開口太窄了，他緊握的拳頭無法通過。

"Whatever shall I do?"he wailed. "My hand will be stuck in this jar for ever."

“我該怎麼辦？”他嚎啕大哭。我的手將永遠卡在這個罐子裡。”

Just then his mother came in.

就在這時，他媽媽進來了。

"Really," she said, "there's nothing to make such a fuss about. Try taking half as many nuts and raisins as you have in your hand and you'll find it comes out of the jar quite easily."

“真的，”她說，“沒什麼好大驚小怪的。試著拿一半你手裡的堅果和葡萄乾，你會發現它很容易從罐子裡出來。”
