What would you like?

I. Teaching Aims

Knowledge aims

l Students can master the different pronunciation of the group of letters “ow”

l Students will know how to distinguish the pronunciation of “/au/” and “/əʊ/”

Ability aims

l Students can master ability of distinguishing the pronunciation of “ow” in different words.

l Students can improve their observing and discovering ability .

Emotional aims

l Students will arise their interest of learning English and are not afraid of speaking English in public.

l Students can foster their awareness of cooperation .

l To help students know how to pronounce “ow” in a word.

l Students can build up their confidence of learning English.

III. Teaching Methods

To help students achieve the teaching aims much easier, I will mainly use task-based teaching method and communicative teaching method. For students, I will lead them to study by themselves, and communicate with others. Finally, in order to let them become the real host of the whole class,I will provide them more chances to practice their speaking skills.

V. Teaching Procedure

Step 1:Warming up

First , teacher should greet to students.After that, sing a song named If you’re happy to my class.

Step 2:Presentation

Draw stick figures about “cow” and “flower”,then ask students to find out the similarities between these two words and then guide them to find out pronunciation rules of “ow”as /au/,then teach them how to pronounce these letters in a word correctly.and by doing the same way to draw pictures of “snow” and “window” and then teach another pronunciation rules of group of letters “ow” as /əʊ/

Step 3: Practice

There are two activities in this stage:

Activity 1:high and low voice.Teacher reads the words on the blackboard in high voice ,then students read them in low voice;otherwise,teacher reads the words in a low voice,students should read them in a high voice.

Activity 2:send them home.Give students 6 words :rainbow,know,bow and how,now,town then draw two houses on the blackboard,one house with a chimney is the home of “/əʊ/”,the other is the home of “/aʊ/”,students should put the word with same pronunciation in a house.

Step 4: Production

Show three pictures to students and let them make new sentences by using the word with letters “ow”.Then students need to read them ,and teacher should correct their pronunciation.

Step 5: Summary and Homework

1. Invite one student to work as an assistant to summarize what we have learned today.

2. Give students a homework :Students should find out 5 words with “ow” in different pronunciation,and share them next class.
