這7個表”經過“的詞中，除pass, cross是動詞外，其它都是介詞（副詞）。首先，我們從詞性上去區別它們。
充當謂語動詞時用pass, cross, 不充當謂語動詞時用past, across, through, over, by
從旁邊“經過” “繞過” “路過”用pass（介詞形式為past）, 從表面“越過”用cross（介詞形式為across）

不充當謂語時，幾個介詞“經過”的區別
past 從旁邊“經過” “路過” “繞過”
by 從旁邊“經過” “繞過” “繞過” （此時by=pst）
across 從表面“經過” , 空中“越過”（比如把東西從房間的一邊扔到另一邊）
over 1. 從上方 “經過” “飛過” “跨過”；2. 從表面“經過” “越過”（此時over=across）
through 從內部“穿過”
為何以上單詞用法孩子們不容易分得清，而“man"和"child"卻不可能弄錯？因為前者的漢語意思相同，而後者漢語意思相距甚遠。這就給我們啟示，我們儘可能將單詞的用法區別在它們的漢語釋義上體現出來，以便孩子們像記man和child一樣只要記得意思就不會弄錯。
因此我們把past, by的意思記為 “繞過”，across 記為 “越過” （=over）, over“跨過”（“越過”時＝across），through記為“穿過”，這樣記住意思就知道用法區別了。
你還可以編成口訣輔助記憶：
through穿過over跨，越過over, across（s不念出以便押韻），從旁路過by和past（st不念出就押韻了）
