一.連詞的定義。
用於連接單詞、短語、從句或句子的詞叫連詞（Conjunction）。連詞是虛詞，在句中不能獨立充當句子成分，只起連接作用。
二.常用連詞用法舉例。
1.and 和，並且
I bought a pencil and two knives yesterday.
昨天我買了一支鉛筆和兩把小刀。
She lives and studies there.
她在那裡居住和學習。
2.or 或，還是，否則
You may listen to the recording or do your homework.
你可以聽錄音或是做家庭作業。
Will you spend your summer vacation at school or at home?
你暑假打算在學校過還是在家過？
Wear your coat or you will be cold.
穿上你的外衣，否則你會著涼的。
3.but 但是，然而
He is young, but he is very clever.
他雖小，但非常聰明。
4.not only...but also...不僅...而且
She is not only a singer but also a dancer.
她不僅是個歌唱家，而且是個舞蹈家。
I not only heard it, but also saw it.
我不但聽見了，而且還看見了。
5.both...and...兩者都
Both Jane and Mary came to see me yesterday.
珍妮和瑪麗昨天都來看我了。
6.so 於是，因此
He is waiting for me, so I must be quick.
他在等我，所以我得趕快走。
7.after 在...之後
I found your coat after you had left the house.
你離開屋子後，我找到了你的上衣。
8.either...or...或者...或者/不是...就是
Either come in or go out.
要麼進來，要麼出去。
You may either stay at home or go with us.
你呆在家裡也行，跟我們去也可以。
9.as soon as 一...就...
I will ring you up as soon as I see him.
我一看到他就給你打電話。
10.if 如果，假如，是否，只要
You can learn English well if you work hard.
只要努力，你能學好英語的。
If it rains tomorrow, we will stay at home.
如果明天下雨，我們就呆在家裡。
11.as...as... 和...一樣
He planted trees as fast as anyone else.
他種樹和其他人一樣快。
12.till(until) 到...時，直到...才
Please wait till I come.
請等到我來。
He didn't come back home until midnight.
他直到半夜才回家。
13.since 由於，既然，自從...以來
What have you been doing since I last saw you?
自從上次我見到你以來，你一直在幹些什麼？
Since you don't want to see the film, we won't force you to.
既然你不願意看這部電影，我們也不勉強你。
14.because 因為
I was absent yesterday because I was ill.
昨天我因病缺席。
I will not go to school because tomorrow is Sunday.
因為明天是週日，所以我不用上學。
15.as 因為，當...時候
①用以引導原因狀語從句
As you're ready, you may go first.
因為你準備好了，你可以先走。
②用以引導時間狀語從句
As she looked herself in the mirror, she found a man standing behind her.
當她照鏡子時，發現一個男人站在身後。
③用以引導方式狀語從句
He finished his homework just as his teacher told him.
他正是按照老師告訴他的那樣完成了作業。
④用以引導比較狀語從句
They worked as fast as experienced workers.
他們工作得像有經驗的工人們一樣快。
⑤用以引導讓步狀語從句
Try as he would, he couldn't lift that huge box.
雖然他試了，可他還是舉不起那個巨大的盒子。
Smart as she was, she couldn't beat another girl in the competition.
雖然她很聰明，但她沒能在比賽中擊敗另一個女孩。
