The leader of the Iceland Premier League hosts the leader of the Estonia Meistriliiga, with both currently involved in a great streak of unbeaten games. Stjarnan hasn’t lost any of the last 12 matches played in all competitions (winning 10 of them), with Nomme Kalju unbeaten in the last 11, winning eight.
The hosts have won the last eight back to back while scoring 23 goals, with the visitors winning the last four consecutive scoring 35, including an incredible 16-0 triumph in their last cup tie. There is no doubt that they are the best teams in their countries and used to dominate and attack, but won’t have an easy task in Europe.
Stjarnan lost the last European tie played against the weak Irish side of Shamrock Rovers last season losing both home and away 1-0, with Nomme Kalju defeating the weak Faroe Islands side of B36 in the first leg of last season’s Europa League to then lose 4-1 in an aggregate against the Hungarian team of Videoton.
This will be a very close match, with both teams scared of making mistakes, but with the visitors more used to the big scenarios, we expect them to take at least a draw in this first leg.
