前些天，世界三大權威英語詞典——牛津詞典、劍橋詞典和柯林斯詞典紛紛公佈了2019年度熱詞（buzzword）。

Climate emergency
定義：
Climate emergency is defined as ‘a situation in which urgent action is required to reduce or halt climate change and avoid potentially irreversible environmental damage resulting from it.’
“氣候緊急狀態”的定義為：需要採取緊急行動以緩解或阻止氣候變化，避免由此造成的潛在不可逆轉的環境損害的形勢。

牛津詞典（Oxford Dictionary）
評選理由：
牛津詞典研究表明，該詞已從“相對不為人知”飆升至“2019年最引人注目的、備受爭議的詞彙之一”。到今年9月，該詞的使用率已經達到前一年的100多倍。

Climate strike
定義：
“Climate strike”, defined as “a form of protest in which people absent themselves from education or work in order to join demonstrations demanding action to counter climate change,” was first registered by Collins in 2015, to coincide with the Climate Change conference in Paris, where a mass protest took place.
“氣候罷工”，指“一種為了參加要求採取行動應對氣候變化的示威活動而不去上學或工作的抗議形式”。

評選理由：

目前，本年度的聯合國氣候大會正在西班牙馬德里召開。自6日晚上開始，來自世界各地的環保人士在馬德里舉行了大規模的抗議，要求與會人員就氣候保護問題發出明確的信號。
Upcycling
定義：
The word “upcycling” ， defined as the activity of making new furniture, objects, etc. out of old or used things or waste material – received more likes than any other Word of the Day (it was shared on 4 July 2019).
“升級回收”，是指將舊的、用過的東西或廢棄材料製作新傢俱、物品等的活動，它獲得了最高的“每日一詞”點贊數（該詞為2019年7月4日的每日一詞）。

劍橋詞典（Cambridge Dictionary）
評選理由：
自2011年12月首次被收入劍橋詞典網站以來，“升級回收”一詞的搜索量增長了181%，僅去年一年的搜索量就增加了一倍。
劍橋詞典的出版經理溫德林·尼科爾斯說：“我們認為，‘升級回收’一詞背後的積極意義比這個詞本身更吸引人。阻止氣候變化的進程，有時似乎是不可能的，更不用說扭轉它。‘升級回收’是每個人可以為此做出改變的具體行動。”
同批入選的詞彙還有“carbon sink"(碳匯，指的是森林面積大到足以吸收地球大氣中的大量二氧化碳，從而減少全球變暖的影響）；“compostable”（可堆肥的，可以用來製作肥料，腐爛後可以用作堆肥）。
Existential
定義：
We define the adjective existential in two senses. The first is “of or relating to existence.” Entering English in the late 1600s, this existential is often used when the fact of someone or something’s being—its very existence—is at stake. An existential threat to a species, for example, puts its continued existence in real, concrete peril.
Our second sense of existential is “concerned with the nature of human existence as determined by the individual’s freely made choices.” First recorded by the early 1900s, this existential is related to existentialism, a philosophy that affirms our individual agency in making meaningful, authentic choices about our lives.
existential有兩種不同的用法。在17世紀晚期existential最初出現時，它的意思是“某人或某事切實存在”，但這個存在本身處於危險之中。另一層意思是“關注個人的自由選擇所決定的人的存在本質”，這一用法最早記錄於20世紀初，它與存在主義有關。

評選理由：
根據Dictionary.com的統計，2019年有許多沉重的話題。existential在氣候變化相關討論和多里安颶風等重大自然災害後頻繁出現。不僅如此，在人為災害發生之後，當充滿仇恨的言論出現時，existential也被頻繁提起。
另外民主黨總統候選人拜登，他曾稱美國總統特朗普是“對美國的生存威脅”（existential threat to America），隨後這一單詞的搜索量上升了1000%以上。
Cancel culture
定義：
The dictionary's entry for cancel culture describes it as "the attitudes within a community which call for or bring about the withdrawal of support from a public figure".
字典中對該詞的解釋是“一個群體內要求或導致公眾人物不再受到支持的態度。”可以理解為“取關文化”。
舉個例子：某個公眾人物或因為某些舉止讓公眾爆發強烈不滿，隨後遭受集體抵制，集體取消，於是那個名人一夜之間，人氣暴跌，徹底退出公眾視野，消失得無影無蹤。
評選詞典：
麥考瑞詞典（Macquarie Dictionary）
評選理由：
該委員會指出這個詞語完美地捕捉了00後（Zeitgeist）在2019年的一種重要現象。
“這種態度如此普遍，以至現在都有了名字。無論如何，社會上的‘cancel culture’已成為了一股強大的力量。”
除了這個詞之外，其他幾個入選的年度詞語還有：eco-anxiety（生態焦慮）、ngangkari（澳大利亞原住民詞語，傳統醫治者）、thicc（源於非洲英語的俚語，是thick的另一種寫法，用來形容女性臀部的豐滿曲線，這屬於正面形容，表示讚賞不同於西方傳統白人審美觀的體型特徵）。
中國十大流行語
《咬文嚼字》編輯部：
“文明互鑑”“區塊鏈”“硬核”“融梗”“××千萬條，××第一條”“檸檬精”“996”“我太難/南了”“我不要你覺得，我要我覺得”“霸凌主義”十條流行語入選。
國家語言資源監測與研究中心：
本次發佈的十個網絡用語依次為：“不忘初心”“道路千萬條，安全第一條”“檸檬精”“好嗨喲”“是個狼人”“雨女無瓜”“硬核”“996”“14億護旗手”“斷舍離”。
