47 从狮子岭再拜
经苏北入河南省，过凤阳、亳州、昊陵嵩山、少林寺、至洛阳白马寺各地。是年四十四岁，晦明风雨无间，如是行拜。一心称念南无大智文殊师利菩萨名号，苦乐饥饱不动于衷，置之度外矣。
宣化偈曰：
达磨面壁熊耳山，
竺法摩腾白马传。
如今仍有神光否，
为法断臂红雪潮。
Starting to bow again on Shih Tzu Peak
The Master then Su Pei and entered Hunan Province, passing through Feng Yang, Hao Chou, Hao Ling (High Mound), Sung Shan (Eminent Peak），and Shao Lin Monastery among other places, before reaching White Horse Monastery in Lo Yang. He was now forty-four years old. The monastery continued to walk and bow in the same manner as always, both night and day, through wind and rain. Single-mindedly, he recited the name of the greatly wise Manjushri Bodhisattva. By neither suffering nor bliss, starvation nor repletion was he moved within, because he had removed himself from these influences.
The verse says:
Bodhidharma faced the wall in Bear’s Ear Mountain Cave.
Kashyapa-Matanga and Gobharana founded White Horse Monastery.
Is there not now yet another Bhikshu Shen Kuang
Who severs his arm in search of the Dharma, turning the snow to red?
48 寄宿小旅店
十二月末拜至黄河铁缷渡，经过光武陵，是处无寺院，不得已寻旅店投宿过初一。行脚滋味异常辛苦，朝拜山川更为艰难。笔者亦曾亲尝其味，饱历风霜，自东北迢迢万里访明师。
宣化偈曰：
行脚参方受苦辛，
朝山拜顶磨性真。
露宿霜眠无所住，
披星戴月降其心。
