提高英語的其中一個方法就是學習單詞的搭配，怎樣組合成短語（phrase），怎樣組成習語（idiom），或者一些動詞名詞組合、形容詞名詞組合。我們今天的文章，跟大家說說關於“決定”（decision）的短語和搭配。

make decision

和decision最常搭配的動詞是“make”， 組成“make decision”；但是，“come to a decision”和“reach a decision”也非常常用。而後者更常用在我們花了很長時間的考慮才做的決定。

• She has to make some difficult decision.（她不得不做一些很艱難的決定。）
• The company will reach a decision shortly.（公司很快會作出決定。）
• I had come to a decision.（我已經做出決定了。）

weigh up

當很難做出決定的時候，我們肯定是在花時間考慮這個決定的利弊。“利弊”我們可以說：

• pros and cons
• advantages and disadvantages

這個時候，我麼會用到：

weigh up（權衡）

• I'm weighing up my options before I decide to apply for a job.（我在權衡我的選擇，然後再決定是否申請那份工作。）

是的，如果我們有幾個選擇的話，我們真的需要去仔細權衡每個選擇的得失，這好像比沒有選擇更讓人苦惱。

mull over

什麼是“mull over”呢？mull的原意是“把一些酒做成熱飲”“熬製”，那麼“mull over”就是對一件事“反覆的考慮，思前想後”

• I need a few days to mull things over before I decide if I'm taking the job.（在決定我要不要做這份工之前，我需要幾天仔細思考一下。）

think long and hard

當你需要做一個特別難的決定時，大家都想重點表達自己思考決定時的認真，這個時候就可以用：

think long and hard about...（深思熟慮）

don't take the decision lightly.（不輕易做決定）

• Think long and hard before you make important decisions.（做任何重要決定前都要深思熟慮。）
• They did not take the decision lightly.（他們沒有輕率的決定。）

如果你想把你深思熟慮的細節告訴對方，我們可以用下面兩個短語：

bear ... in mind

take ... into consideration

• Bearing in mind how young she is, I thought she did very well.（別忘了她年紀那麼小，我認為她做得很好了。）
• A good architect takes into consideration the building's surrounding.（一個好的建築師會考慮建築物周邊的環境。

當你在難以抉擇的時候，你可能會想去“seek advice”（尋求建議），又或者自己“do some research”（做一些調查）。然後你就可以做出一個“informed decision”（思考周到的決定）。這裡的“informed”指的就是：

You have got all the information you need about something.（你得到了所有需要的信息）

所以，informed 也可以用在：

• an informed opinion（有根據的觀點）
• an informed choice（有根據的選擇）

hasty decision

如果你在決定前沒有深思熟慮，只是稍微思考了一下，就選了其中一個選擇，那麼到後來你可能會對你的決定感到後悔。這個時候，我們就說我們：

make a hasty decision（做了一個倉促的決定）

不過如果你做的決定很匆忙，但是這個決定沒有什麼不好的後果，是比較中性或者積極的，那麼就可以說：

make a snap decision（做了一個匆忙的決定）

overturn a decision

如果別人做了一個決定，你很不滿意，而正好你也有權力去否決，你就可以：

• overturn the decision（推翻決定）
• reverse the decision（推到決定）
