玉舞人可能是古代中國最特殊的墜飾之一，它的題材僅限於舞蹈中的年輕女子，流行的時間僅在戰國末年到漢代的300年間，與漢代興起的厭勝佩一樣，流行時間的確不算長。

雖然早在史前，古人就已經用玉製作人物形象，商代和西周還有為數不少的女性玉人，造型莊嚴，姿態僵硬，似乎不完全是現實人物，有些還加入了一些想象的細節，至今我們都很難解釋這些人物的寓意。
兩件玉舞人並排而立，均眉清目秀，身材修長，內穿多層長袍並著長褲，外穿長袖曲裾深衣，腰繫兩條寬絹帶，雙腳穿翹頭履。主要採用立體圓雕技法，還採用鏤空透雕和細線陰刻技法，玉工生動表現了舞女跳舞時的瞬間姿態，它是迄今為止發現的有明確出土記錄的形體最大的圓雕玉舞人。
