漢語中的“借”，使用較為靈活，既可以表示借給別人，也可以用於從別人那裡借，具體的含義要通過實際的語境來判斷。這也是漢語語言表達簡潔性的一大表現。但是在英語中，“借出去”和“借進來”是兩種完全不同的表達形式，今天我們就來學習一下borrow和lend這兩個單詞在英語中如何表示“借”。
一、從基本詞義上來看borrow和lend的區別：
前面我們已經說了，borrow和lend兩者都可表示“借”，但是 borrow 指“從別人那裡借到，借來”，而 lend 則指“自己把東西借出去”，我們可以這樣理解borrow和lend表示的動作是相反的，它們兩者其實是一對反義詞，而不是同義詞。如：
• I lent my CD player to Dave and I haven’t got it back yet.
我把CD播放機借給戴夫，到現在還沒有拿回來。（借出去）
• The hospital agreed to lend us a wheelchair.
• May I borrow your car?
我可以借用你的汽車嗎?（借進來）
• Could I borrow your bike from you until next week?
我借用你的自行車，直到下週還你，好嗎?（借進來）
二、從borrow和lend的用法上：
1.borrow sth from sb表示“向某人借某物”，一定要記住borrow用的介詞是from。如：
• Did you borrow my pen from my desk?
你從我桌面拿走了我的鋼筆，是嗎?
• Morgan borrowed $5,000 from his father to form the company 20 years ago.
摩根20年前向他父親借了$5000來建立這家公司。
2. lend sth to sb表示“把某物借給某人”，與borrow...form...不同，lend一般和介詞to連用，如：
•A lot of banks are unwilling to lend money to new businesses.
許多銀行都不願意給新企業貸款。
•The commercial bank is willing to lend money to these customers.
這家商業銀行願意把錢貸給這些客戶。
三、borrow和lend其他的語法區別：
borrow和lend的另一區別是其後是否可以接雙賓語，lend 可接雙賓語(即可用於 lend sb sth)，但 borrow 則不能接雙賓語(即不能用於 borrow sb sth)。如：
Could you lend me some money? 你能否借給我一點錢？
He offered to lend me some books. 他主動提出借給我幾本書。
比較：
正：She lent him some money. 她借給他一些錢。
正：She lent some money to him. 她借給他一些錢。
正：He borrowed some money from her. 他向她借了一些錢。
誤：He borrowed her some money.
