英語有不少表達，看起來類似，其實細微的差別導致意思的巨大不同。比如go to hospital 和go to the hospital，你能區分嗎？原來go to hospital 表示“住院，看病”，而go to the hospital 是“去醫院，去醫院上班”；at sea 和all at sea 的意思也不一樣，前者是說“在海上”，而all at sea 表示“茫然不知所措”；on earth 和on the earth也讓很多人困惑，其實on earth意思是“究竟，到底”，on the earth 意思是“在地球上”；再來看out of question 和out of the question又有什麼差別？out of question 是“毫無疑問，沒問題”，而out of the question 是“不可能的”。

on sale 的意思是“折價銷售，減價出售”。

on sale 還有“出售，上市”的意思，一般說的是在商店。
All tickets go on sale this Friday.
所有票在本星期五開始銷售。
for sale 的意思是“待售，供出售”，一般指的是從物主手裡。
They will put all these second-hand goods up for sale.
他們將把這些舊貨全部公開出售。
All the exhibits for sale here are new products.
這裡展銷的盡是新產品。
很多同學或許會有疑惑，sales 是單數還是複數，到底什麼意思？這個問題並不複雜。作為名詞是“銷售量”，sales 肯定是複數；如果口語裡面，有人說 I once worked as a sales in that company，這裡的sales，其實是salesman的簡稱，是單數；如果看到sales department ，這裡的sales又是形容詞，意思是“銷售的”。所以，具體情況具體分析吧！
