On the afternoon of June 6, 2018, Secretary General LI Baodong to met with GU Xueming, President of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC), MOFCOM, at the secretariat.
LI welcomed GU and said that the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) came into being in 2001 against the background of the Asian financial crisis. China, as the host country, sets great store by the development of the BFA, as evidenced by the presence of the state leaders at the BFA Annual Conferences, laying the foundations for the achievements of BFA. With a focus on Asia and an international perspective, the BFA is now at a new stage of development. While keeping its focus on the economy, the BFA actively extends its reach in the five areas of science and technology, health, culture, education, and media.
LI pointed out that as an important platform for promoting regional cooperation in Asia, the BFA stands ready to foster cooperation with Chinese and foreign high-end think tanks including CAITEC, captures and studies the common and trending developments in the world in a timely manner, leads the discussion on international major and foremost issues, and forms relevant consensus and programs, in a bid to contribute to the formation of a new global governance mechanism.
GU congratulated on LI's election as the BFA Secretary General and stated that CAITEC is willing to provide all-round services for the BFA's future conference activities at home and abroad and jointly promote the reform and construction of regional cooperation in Asia and global governance system.
