我們經常需要給客戶或者團隊建議某件事怎麼做會比較好，總離不開的一個詞是suggest。
有小夥伴說每天suggest來suggest去，有沒有什麼別的詞可以換換。
很多人馬上想到了propose，這是一個不錯的選擇。
不過要注意一點，propose是「提議」，比 suggest要正式一些。很多人雖然也知道這是一個更正式的詞，但具體怎麼表現為「正式」，卻不知道。下面我們簡單說說。
當我們說suggest的時候，或許只是一個初步的想法，具體怎麼做還沒來得及想。
而當我們說propose的時候，一般是有明確清晰的方案。當你已經想好一二三怎麼做，這時你就可以說 I would like to propose…/My proposal is …
還有一個詞是recommend，這時我們今天要重點講的。
recommend是「推薦」沒錯，但是我們中文裡並不習慣說 「我的推薦是…」，但老外卻很喜歡說My recommendation is …
有一次在電話會議，我問老外What's your suggestion?
我已經在腦補他下一句會說 My suggestion is …了，結果他冷不防來了一句：
My recommendation is …
郵件裡也常用 Below is my recommendation for ...
日常對話中，還會聽到老外bla bla bla說完一大通，然後以This is my recommendation.
在字典裡 recommendation除了「推薦」外，確實就有suggestion 的意思：
an official suggestion about the best thing to do 正式建議；提議牛津詞典
例：
- The committee made recommendations to the board on teachers' pay and conditions. 委員會就教師的工資和工作條件問題向董事會提出建議。
- I had the operation on the recommendation of my doctor. 我根據醫生的建議做了手術。
動詞recommend也有同樣的意思，搭配用法和suggest一樣：
- recommend doing sth
- recommend that sb(should) do sth
當然也可以recommend sb to do sth。
例：
1）The report recommended a 10% cost reduction. 報告提議成本降低10%。
2）I recommend (that) he see a doctor. 我建議他去看醫生。
3）It is strongly recommended that the machines should be checked every year. 建議每年一定把機器檢修一次。
4）I recommend you to book shipping space earlier 我建議你早預定艙位。
商品標籤上的「建議零售價」，以下兩種說法都可以
1）suggested retail price
2）recommended retail price
我們來看看老外的原生例句：
- Below are my recommendations for the improvement.
- So my recommendation is stop talking and start doing it.
- And that is my recommendation today: take it SLOW.
- You can grab the early beta here but I recommend waiting for the official version to arrive this week.
- I recommend making an appointment before you call.
