中文裡，關於 “馬” 的成語實在太多
馬到成功、一馬當先、車水馬龍...
其實在英語中，關於馬的俚語也不少
如果不瞭解它們的真正意思
很容易會引起誤解
比如a horse laugh可不是“一隻馬在笑”
“a horse laugh”是什麼意思？
“a horse laugh”的意思是：
不信任的嘲笑，譏笑，狂笑
例：
When I told him that I passed the exam, he simply gave me a horse laugh.
當我告訴他我考試過了，他不相信地笑了。
At the end of the joke she gave a horse laugh that could be heard a street away.
在那個笑話結束時，她發出一陣狂笑，隔著一條街都能聽到。
hold your horses
hold your horses 其實跟 “馬” 一點關係都沒有
它的正確意思是：
不要著急；耐心點
也可以表達成 hold the horses
例：
Hold your horses and never expose your identity.
沉住氣，不要暴露你的身份。
talk horse
吹牛，說大話
例：
He often talks horse.
他經常說大話！
horse sense
千萬不要理解為“馬的感覺”
horse sense的實際意思是：
基本常識
例：
Horse sense tells me that it would be suicide to do such a thing.
常識告訴我，那樣做等於自殺。
high horse
趾高氣揚的；高高在上
例：
He is always on his high horse.
他總是一副趾高氣揚，目中無人的樣子。
clothes horse
晾衣架; 講究衣著的人，趕時髦的人
例：
Princess Diana was a real clothes horse.
黛安娜王妃是一個很講究穿戴的人。
最後來看看我們常說的：黑馬
“黑馬”可不是black horse
黑馬正確的說法是
dark horse
英文詞典裡是這樣解釋的：
A candidate or competitor about whom little is known but who unexpectedly wins or succeeds.
鮮為人知的候選人或競爭者，意外地獲勝或成功。
例：
Don't think you'll beat him easily, he may be a dark horse.
不要以為你會輕而易舉地勝過他，他可能是出人意料的高手。
