第21课：过去进行时-知识精讲
一、定义详解：
1、表示过去某个时间点正在进行的动作。
It was raining at six o’clock in the morning .早上六点天在下雨。
2、表示过去某个时间段内正在进行的动作或者持续进行的动作。
We were reading the novels in the library during the March,三月份期间我们在阅读各种小说。
We were watching TV from seven to nine last night. 昨天晚上七点到九点的时候我们在看电视。
二、过去进行时的句型结构
肯定句：主语+was/were+doing+其他 I was watching TV at nine last night.
否定句：主语+wasn’t/weren’t+doing+其他 I wasn’t doing my homework at eight last night.
疑问句：Was/were+主语+doing+其他？ Was it snowing last night? Yes,it was. No,it wasn’t.
三、常用的时间状语
at this time yesterday, at that time或以when引导的谓语动词是一般过去时的时间状语等。
When while 引导的时间状语从句
My pen dropped on the ground when I was walking in the park.
在公园散步的时候，我的钢笔掉到地上了。
The students were reading while the teacher was correcting their homework.
四、过去进行时和一般过去时的区别
1、过去进行时强调动作在过去某时刻正在进行或持续，而一般过去时表示动作的完成。如：
He was writing his composition last night. 他昨晚在写作文。(不一定写完)
He wrote his composition last night. 他昨晚写了一篇作文。(已经写完)
2、表示过去的状态、感觉及心理活动的静态动词(如be, like, love, hate, fear, own, hear, see, know,
want, notice)可用于一般过去时，但通常不用于进行时。如：
I hated it when a man spoke with his mouth full of food. 我讨厌人们说话时口里含着食物。
3、 一般过去时与always, constantly, forever, continually等连用，表示“过去经常性、习惯性的
动作“：而过去进行时与always, constantly, forever, continually等连用，表示动作的重复，
常带有感情的色彩。如：
He always got up at six. 他过去总是六点起床。
He was always thinking of his work. 他总是一心想到工作。
4、有时过去进行时可以用来替换一般过去时，但一般过去时表示主语的行为是经过认真考虑的；而
过去进行时表示一种较随便或没有进行仔细考虑的行为。如：
I thought that he would agree with us. 我原以为它会同意我们的。
I was thinking of persuading him to follow my advice. 我想到了要说服他接受我们的建议

五、通常不能用于过去进行时的动词
主要有：agree, be, believe, belong, care, forget, hate, have(拥有), hear, know, like, love,
mean, mind, notice, own, remember, seem, suppose, understand, want, wish等。例如：
误：I was knowing the answer. 正：I knew the answer. 我知道答案。
误：I wasn't understanding him 正：I didn't understand him. 我不明白他的意思。
六、when和while的区别
when，while，as都可以引导时间状语从句，但用法区别非常大。
when引导的时间状语从句中的动词可以是终止性动词，也可以是延续性动词。
Why do you want a new job when you've got such a good one already？（get为短暂性动词）
while和as引导的时间状语从句中的动词只能和延续性动词连用。

如果从句和主句的动作同时发生，两句都用过去进行时的时候，多用while引导
当主句、从句动作同时进行，从句动作的时间概念淡化，而主要表示主句动作发生的背景或条件时，只能用 as。这时，as常表示“随着……”；“一边……，一边……”之意。 ① As the time went on，the weather got worse．（as表示“随着……”之意） As years go by，China is getting stronger and richer．随着时间一年一年过去，中国变得越来越富强了。he little girls sang as they went．小姑娘们一边走，一边唱
when从句的谓语动词可以在主句谓语动作之前、之后或同时发生。
从句动作在主句动作前发生，只用 when。 ②When I got to the airport，the guests had left．（got to后发生）当我赶到飞机场时，客人们已经离开了
while 则强调主从句两个动作同时发生，且从句动作为延续性动词时，
当从句的谓语动作和主句谓语动作同时发生when，while，as都可使用
When ／While ／As we were dancing，a stranger came in
when和while 还可作并列连词。when表示“在那时”；while表示“而，却”，表对照关系。
如： a. The children were running to move the bag of rice when they heard the sound of a motor bike. 孩子们正要跑过去搬开那袋米，这时他们听到了摩托车的声音。 b. He is strong while his brother is weak. 他长得很结实，而他弟弟却很瘦弱。
when用于表示“一……就……”的句型中（指过去的事情）
sb．had hardly（＝scarcely） done sth．when．．．＝Hardly ／ Scarcely had sb．done sth．when．．．（用倒装）
①I had hardly ／scarcely closed my eyes when someone knocked at the door．＝Hardly ／ Scarcely had I closed my eyes when someone knocked at the door．我刚一闭上眼，就有人在敲门了。
