在生活中我們常會在等待盼望一些事情的結果。無論是一場精彩的世界盃足球賽，還是一次重要的考試，或者是正在談判中的一次合作，你都會提心吊膽地等待它們的結果。
描繪等待時機的英文表達不少，今天口袋君就分享幾個地道的英文表達。
Bide one's time 等待機會
Bide有兩種用法，第一種是等待。另一種是禁得起。在這個短語中，就是第一種解釋。
Terry：My girlfriend and I had a quarrel about where to go on summer holiday.
特里：我女朋友和我為了暑假去哪吵了一架。
Danny：I'm sorry to hear that. Did you try to text her?
丹妮：我很遺憾。你試過給她發短信嗎？
Terry：Yeah. I've tried everything, but she didn't respond at al.
特里：發了，什麼都試過了，但她完全不回應。
Danny：So what are you going to do?
丹妮：那你打算怎麼辦？
Terry：I think I'll just bide my time until she is willing to talk.

Wait for the other shoe to drop 等待最後的結果
從字面上理解是等另一隻鞋子掉下來的意思，但實際是表達
等待最後壞的結果。用英文解釋為：To wait for the next, seemingly unavoidable thing to happen. This phrase often has a negative connotation. （等待下一個似乎不可避免的事情發生。）這個短語通常有消極的含義。Businessisbadsothefirmhastofire200 employees. They've already announced the first 100, and now the rest of us are waiting for the other shoe to drop.
業務不景氣，所以公司不得不辭退200名僱員。他們已經宣佈了100名解僱人員的名單，目前我們留下來的這些人都在提心吊膽地等待最後結果。
Don't count your chickens 不要高興太早
在等待機會的時候，不能高興的太早，因為最後的結果充滿變數，英語中用Don't count your chickens before they are hatched來表示。其中before they are hatched在口語中經常省略。
Son：My boss says I'm getting a raise,so I'm going to buy a new car with the money.
兒子：我的老闆說我快要加薪了，所以我想用這筆錢買輛新車。
Mum： I'm happy for you, but has the money actually landed in your bank account?
母親：真替你開心，但是這筆錢存入你的銀行賬戶了麼？
Son： Well, not exactly.

Mum： Don't count your chickens before they hatched.
母親：不要過早樂觀。
